FAQs
Questions people ask before booking.
If yours isn’t here, please just ask — I’d rather answer it than have you wonder.
Do I need a reason to book?
No. You do not need a diagnosis, a referral or a crisis. “Something has been off for a while” is a perfectly good reason to come.
What happens in the first session?
We talk. I’ll ask what brought you and what you would like to be different. You are not tested and you don’t need to prepare anything. At the end we decide together whether to meet again.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with the standard exceptions: if there is a serious risk to your life or someone else’s, or if the law requires disclosure. If that ever arises I will tell you before I do anything. See the privacy and confidentiality note.
Which languages can we talk in?
Hindi, English or Punjabi, and you can move between them. Many people find it easier to describe feelings in their first language even if the rest of the conversation is in English.
Are you a psychiatrist? Can you prescribe medication?
No. I am a psychological counsellor, not a medical doctor. I do not diagnose medical conditions and I cannot prescribe medication. If what you describe would benefit from medical assessment, I will say so and help you work out who to see. Counselling can continue alongside medical treatment.
My teenager doesn’t want to come. What should I do?
That is very common and it isn’t a problem. Reluctance is normal at the start and I don’t push. It sometimes helps for parents to have a session first, on their own, to think through how to approach it.
Can I come without my partner?
Yes. Relationship counselling is often more useful with both people present, but you are welcome to come alone and work on your own part of the situation.
Do I need to install anything for an online session?
No. You’ll receive a link that opens in your web browser on a phone or computer. A quiet, private place and a reasonable connection are all you need.
What if I need to change or cancel?
Your confirmation email contains links to reschedule or cancel. Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the appointment are refunded in full. Inside 48 hours, the session is charged.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed number. Some people come a handful of times for something specific; others continue for longer. We review it together as we go, and stopping is always your decision.
If you need urgent help Counselling is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services, or call Tele-MANAS, the Government of India mental health helpline, on 14416 (available 24 hours).
